So your new business is up and running and you’re looking for a new website to draw in some new customers or clients, to showcase what you are all about, to have an online presence and if you’re an online store - to sell products.

Generally if you're a new business, your looking at keeping your costs to a minimum, so you’re looking for a functional, great looking website that will do what it’s intended to - be found online by potential customers so that you can generate more business.

Now, as a web designer, I tend to quote jobs based on page count and how long I think it may take to either do a lot of the back end components (like adding online store products, adding shipping info, adding booking information, event information or setting up style guides for blogs etc). By my experience thus far, a lot of web designers quote websites based on similar scenarios.

Here are 5 tips on how to keep your website costs at a minimum if you are on a budget. 1. Ask your web designer what kind of packages they offer.  For instance - Lore Design Co offers a variety of packages depending on the clients circumstances. An example of this is if you’re happy to have a templated site, which isn’t one of a kind, Lore Design Co offers this an option - Choose a Wix Template and let Lore Design Co use this as a base to build your website. We'll add the content and imagery you supply. This is the budget friendly approach to building your ideal site. A lot of “Web Designers” offer this option, on Wix and other platforms, some of them tend to be more transparent about this than others. 2. Keep your page count to a minimum. Have a think about what you really require for your website, how many pages you need, perhaps instead of having 10-20 pages without a lot of information, consider only having a few and then adding additional sections, with anchors. All your information will still be there, however a little more condensed, which may even help with filling out the page, instead of sometimes having TOO MUCH negative space. 3.If you have an e-commerce site - consider the option of getting your web designer to create only a few products, that you can later duplicate. This will save the designer time, which will then save you money. If they create a few products, you can then duplicate these products (which you will need to do down the line anyway, unless you’re requiring your designer to assist with Maintainance and website upkeep). Another way of keeping costs down is to have all your products on the one page, filtered out by categories on the left hand side. (Ie - if you’re an online store that  sells clothing you may have the options of t-shirts, tops, jumpers etc”) 4. Provide copy that you have already proofed before sending off. Sometimes revisions are based around copy that has previously been submitted. In most instances, The less revisions a web designer has to make, the more affordable it will be for the client. 5. Provide imagery that is ready to go. Make sure that any imagery submitted do not require any editing or photoshopping. Any additional modifications to artwork may incur additional fees as this tends to be outside of most specifications. So if the whole launching your website seems a little overwhelming just remember, that there are certainly options for clients on a budget, from choosing a wide variety of packages that suit, to simplifying your overall design or website content.
