What is WIX?
Wix is a cloud-based web development platform that allows users to create professional (mobile friendly) websites, through the use of their online drag and drop tools - no coding required!
Wix.com has completely revolutionised the world of web design; now making it easier than ever to build and maintain your own website, without any coding knowledge.
Why Wix is great for Small to Medium Businesses?
To be honest, from a Graphic Designers perspective Wix is perfect for me and my clients because:
Most of my clients want me to design a website for them that they can update themselves, fulfil ecommerce orders, manage bookings, perhaps update images, write blog posts etc...Wix makes this very easy, their drag and drop functions and user friendly applications are intended for the everyday person who would rather spend time building their business then having to learn a platform that is clunky and hard to navigate.
Wix offer a variety of different hosting plans to suit every budget. From "free" which basically provides you with a yourname.wixsite.com address to hosting packages starting from $15 AUD per month to $32 AUD per month (for an ecommerce package) there are more expensive packages available, depending on the amount of space and features you require however a majority of clients can get away with it being within this price range.
Wix’s built-in tools are excellent, but they can’t quite do everything. Fortunately, if there’s something they can’t do, there’s probably a Wix app that can. Wix App Market contains hundreds of third-party site features that make your website do more, better.
Unlike its competitors, your hosting package includes an SSL Certificate. What does this mean exactly? A Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL certificate, allows your site visitors to view your site over an HTTPS connection. It secures the connection between your browser and the site you’re visiting.
What is HTTPS?
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure protocol through which your browser communicates with sites. When using HTTP sites, any data that is transferred can potentially be accessed or manipulated by attackers. However, when using HTTPS sites, data is encrypted and authenticated and therefore secured.
Benefits of using HTTPS:
• Your site visitors' information is encrypted, and therefore more secure.
• Many users are more comfortable making purchases and sharing their personal information online when visiting secured sites.
• Google Chrome now displays warnings anytime a user visits a site that is not using HTTPS. Therefore if your site is not secured, your site visitors will get a warning message anytime they access your site.
• Google ranks HTTPS sites more favourably. Converting your site to HTTPS will therefore improve your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
5: When it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), Wix is one of the best website builders at helping you rank highly on Google. You can edit meta titles and descriptions, customise URLs, and even tweak header code. There’s also a whole host of SEO apps available from Wix’s app market if you need guidance or keyword support - especially Rabbit SEO and Site Booster.
To summarise everything above I guess it comes down to preference. If you would prefer to utilise a platform that won't take you forever to learn (so that you can concentrate on what you love doing the most - Your own business, then Wix is for you. Personally, I love Wix because it functions exactly the way that I can imagine/visualise my design. It's uncomplicated, easy to navigate and is cost effective for the client.
Ongoing Support
When handing your site over, I also provide a few Wix Tutorial Link or How To's based on what you require for your site specifically. Ie - if you have an ecommerce site - I'll send you links on how to duplicate products and add additional products to your collections etc, The links I send will be specific to what you might require to DIY your site.
I also offer a 60 minute zoom tutorial (if required at an additional cost, this can be purchased here) to show you how you would go about using your site (for instance if your site was an ecommerce store you might want to know how to fulfil orders, or add products etc. Or if you have a gallery, you may want to know how to add images or content etc).
I normally remain as an admin of your site just incase you require any assistance in the future. I am available for additional support, and will gladly walk you through any "how to" features over a quick phone call, or even offer continued site maintenance at at an hourly fee if you’re not Au Fait with DIY website maintenance.

As a Wix Pro Designer, I offer all of my design services independently (on a freelance basis); which also means that I have no direct affiliation with Wix other than being accredited by Wix as Wix Pro Designer; in other words - I am not employed by Wix.
